FANTASY BOWL XI

Image
It comes down to this! After a grueling 13 weeks of the Regular Season and another 2 of playoffs, Fantasy Bowl XI comes down to two: Fireseed and Ice Cold Bruschis. After battling their way through the season, we remain with a tie-breaking Crittenden Division grudge match for the right to be enshrined in AldenLeague history as the 2010 League Champion. In Week 15, Fireseed blew past the BountyHunters in a lopsided affair due to a strong week paired with an injury-riddled BountyHunter collapse. This is the Crittenden Divison Champion's third Fantasy Bowl appearance, and first since 2003. The Ice Cold Bruschis took out the top-scoring team in the league, C-Men, by 17 points that could have been the result of a last-minute declaration of C-Men WR Malcom Floyd as inactive. Had the inactive label been announced earlier, there were a total of four free agent WRs that would've given Maras the edge had he picked them up. It was not meant to be so, as the more-vigilant Ice Cold Br...

Best Semi-finals Ever?

Image
Only 4 games in AldenLeague playoff history have ever been decided by fewer than 2 points. This week, Yahoo! projections is calling for BOTH semi-final matchups to join that list. Of the four teams remaining, 2 of them just scored their first-ever playoff victories last week, while the other 2 are postseason veterans who met in Fantasy Bowl III. If these games are even half as even and exciting as they're laid out to be, this will still be one hell of a weekend. Week 14 Recap Woe is Andy! The regular season's top scoring team had gotten the season-long shaft in the W-L department, but finally as the season wound down the Fantasy Gods decided to make things right by getting him into the playoffs on the strength of a Week 13 win. But the post-season was no friendlier than the regular one, as QB Aaron Rodgers left his game early with a concussion (after being ineffective anyhow) and QB Jay Cutler shat the bed royally in the snowy conditions of his game. The result? The lo...

The Smoke Has Cleared - It's Playoff Time!!!

Image
After the finale of perhaps the tightest AldenLeague season in its 11-year history, the smoke has finally cleared to reveal the playoff field. Congratulations to C-Men, Fireseed, BountyHunters, Andy's Red Hots, Ice Cold Bruschis, and Most Murderous for making up the 2010 post-season. Also, best of luck to everyone else in the Consolation Bracket in the fight for the #1 draft pick in 2011. This is your official (and extremely subjective) team-by-team preview of the playoff field, and then a look at this week's Wild Card Matchups. But first, be sure to click here to take a look at some facts and figures about the 2010 season in a special playoff version of Behind the Numbers . #1 seed - C-Men (11-2 overall, 6-0 divisional, Westwood Division Champion, 2nd place in points race) It's tough to find statistics that make the C-Men look bad. Perfect divisional record, perfect record against playoff foes, only 5 points back in the points race, tied for the all-time league reco...

Behind the Numbers - Playoff Edition

Image
Here's a bit of facts and history from our statistics department: Fact #1: With their 11-2 record, the C-Men have tied the AldenLeague record for best single season record ever, equaling the 2005 seasons for both CheektoWojo and The Skyns. Fact #2: With their 10-3 record, Fireseed moves into a 4-way tie for 2nd best record of all time with '03 Fireseed, '03 Syn City, and '03 Mayumi (Brian Fix). Fact #3: Considering Facts #1 and 2, the seven best records in league history were set over the course of only three individual seasons. Fact #4: For the first time since the league expanded to 12 teams, the 6 playoff teams are also the top 6 points-scorers during the regular season. Fact #5: Last season, Most Murderous ended the regular season on a 6-game losing streak, but made the playoffs. This season, they ended on a 3-game losing streak, but also made the playoffs. Fact #6: The BountyHunters missed the playoffs for the first four years of their existence, but have now ...

Final Week Playoff Scenarios

Image
by Eric Synrod & Andy Morrish Well boys, it's official: This is the craziest season of AldenLeague in it's 11 year history. Some facts for you going into this final week: Fact 1 : 3 of the top 5 scoring teams enter the final week at 5-7 in 8th-10th places. Fact 2 : The combined record of the top 6 scoring teams is 37-35. The bottom 6 teams? 35-37. Fact 3 : The playoff fates for 8 teams is yet to be determined (we're not talking seeding, we're talking in-or-out). Fact 4 : The Sandridge Division could (and is likely to) end in a four-way tie at 6-7. Fact 5: An 8-team tie for 3rd best record is possible... with all teams at 6-7. Fact 6 : The playoff scenarios were very complicated that we took the liberty of assuming that large point gaps (ie over 30) would not be overcome. You'll notice a few asterisks and some caveats... basically we are saying just use this as a general outline because a lot of craziness could still happen. This season we wouldn't expect...

Playoff Scenerios with 2 Weeks Left!

Image
by Eric Synrod Okay Guys, here is what I got thus far. Crittenden Division: Title clinched by Fireseed, Todd has also clinched a first round bye in playoffs. Westwood Division: Title clinched by C-Men, Corey has also clinched a first round bye in playoffs. Sandridge Division: It is easier to give the scenarios based on this weeks outcomes, so here we go: Week 12 matchups - Stigs vs CheektoWojo - Andy's Red Hots vs BountyHunters Week 13 matchups - Stigs vs Andy's Red Hots - CheektoWojo vs BountyHunters If Stigs and Andy's Red Hots win in week 12: -Stigs clinches division title. If Stigs and BountyHunters win in week 12: - Stigs wins division title with win OR Bounty loss is week 13 - BountyHunters win division title with win AND Stigs loss in week 13 If CheektoWojo and Andy's Red Hots win in week 12: - Stigs and Red Hots week 13 matchup will determine division champ If CheektoWojo and BountyHunters win in week 12: -...

Week 11 - The Homestretch

Image
The NFL saw brilliance in the AldenLeague scheduling formula, and decided to steal our ideas for the 2010 season. All NFL teams will finish off their seasons with their final 3 games being a final gauntlet through their 3 divisional rivals. Sound familiar? The greatness of AldenLeague shines through again! Yes, gentlemen, this is it. The 2010 fantasy season will once again be determined by how well you play against your divisional foes. That starts this week, Week 11, a rematch of what went down in Week 7. As you can all see to the left, only 2 games separates last place from a playoff spot, and only 3 games separates the top team from being out of the postseason. Anything can happen in the final homestretch. Let's take a look: WESTWOOD DIVISION: C-Men vs. Tecmo All-Stars, and Boys of Summer vs. Syn City At 8-2, the C-Men have all but clinched a playoff berth - it would require 3 consecutive losses and a pretty miraculous swing in points scored to keep them out of the post...

The Big Guns

Image
This week brings about a premier matchup, with the highest-scoring fantasy team in AldenLeague, Andy's Red Hots, taking on Fireseed, who at 6-1 is tied for the best record overall. To prepare for the immovable object taking on the unstoppable force, owners Andy and Todd take to the trash-talking arena to bring us up-to-date! T: So Andy, worst to first this year, at least in terms of points scored so far. What do you attribute it to - the fact that Adam finally decided to let someone else win the Sandridge Division for a change? Or was it more the pink-and-purple penis helmet you were sporting? I did notice that you're 0-1 after getting rid of the phalic logo ("phalic" means "penis-like" for Hartman, who we all know doesn't use big words). A: I can't complain about the phallus as it did seem to bring me good luck but I'm not going to give it all the credit for my early season success. The biggest reason for my turnaround thus far has...

The View from the Top (by Andy Morrish)

Image
It is Week 7, always a pivotal point in the season but this year it has some added pizazz for I am dubbing it “Rivalry Week”. The middle of the year, the third divisional week and due to some luck in the scheduling we’ve got some juicy matchups. Matchup #1 - Fireseed (5-1) vs. TheSkyns (3-3) (aka The Ray Lewis Bowl) The top matchup this week sees 2nd place Fireseed against longtime foe TheSkyns . While it may not be the most storied of rivalries within AldenLeague it does pit two teams who tend to perform well in the regular season and ultimately collapse come the playoffs. A win this week by Hoskyns would put them only a game behind Todd and the Crittenden division title well within grasp. The inconsistent Skyns team (you never know if he’ll score under 100 or be the top team in the league) gets a break this week because Fireseed is without the stalwart and #1 fantasy scorer thus far, Peyton Manning. Hoskyns is also down a quarterback but losing Shaun Hill for the week probably makes...

AldenLeague: Week 6, and State of the League Update!

Image
It's Week 6, guys and Synrods! Approaching the half-way point of the regular season means the return of Big Ben, Andy's almost ready to stop being called "So Gay I Make Synrod Uncomfortable" and resume his normal team name (which I'll have to get all out of my system today), and we're on the verge of ending the 2nd (yes, 2nd) game of the Eliminator on the message board already! (Corey = Douchebag) So what have we learned? We've learned that this season is about as confusing as how Hartman got into law school. As of this writing, the #3 player in total fantasy points scored (Kyle Orton, Stigs) was a 6th round draft pick, the #5 scorer (Shaun Hill, The Skyns) was undrafted, the #1 RB (Arian Foster, C-Men) fell to the 5th round, and Puzan hasn't made a single comment about Mexicans since Draft Day. Weird. Tied at the top of the league with identical 4-1 records are C-Men and Fireseed, who (unironically?) also had the 1st and 2nd picks of the Draft. B...

Blockbuster Trade!

Image
The first big trade of 2010 has occurred! Late before Week 4, Most Murderous answered the call of Crittenden Division rival Fireseed, who was looking for a trading partner for one of their QBs. In anticipation of Ben Roethlisberger's return from suspension, Fireseed was forced to deal one of the 3 QBs on their roster, which included Peyon Manning, Roethlisberger, and Michael Vick. Vick was the one chosen to pack his bags, and he was sent to defending AldenLeague Champion Most Murderous in exchange for San Francisco RB Frank Gore. This is a big, big trade. After being active for only 2 full games (and part of the Week 1 contest) after 3 weeks, Vick was the #2 QB in AldenLeague in terms of fantasy points and in terms of QB rating. Meanwhile, Gore was a first-round pick and consensus top-5 fantasy RB this season. His production had him as the #3 overall RB in AldenLeague at the time of the trade. The move makes sense for both teams. Most Murderous, a team who has a long history...

Week 3

Image
The 2010 season is underway, and already things are interesting. Two teams are undefeated, two teams have yet to win, and already "the pack" is 8 teams deep at 1-1. Only 28 points separates first place from eighth. Already only 3 teams are left in the Eliminator. And new member Stiegler has expressed the excitement he was claimed to have had for the league by still not having bothered to make a helmet. So let's take a look at what the upcoming week holds in store for us. Matchup of the Week: The Skyns (2-0) vs. So Gay I Make Synrod Uncomfortable (1-1) One of those two undefeated teams left, the Skyns puts his early #1 AldenLeague ranking on the line in this year's edition of the Ithaca College Bowl against So Gay I Make Synrod Uncomfortable, who at 1-1 is 2nd in total points and only 2 points back of the league lead. This matchup is all about the quarterbacks. Andy's So Gay I Make Synrod Uncomfortable team is led by upstart QB Jay Cutler, who is surprising...

Toilet Bowl Champion Maras Exercises His Rights

Image
Hear ye, hear ye! 2009 AldenLeague Toilet Bowl Champion Corey Maras has exercised his rights to assign a new name to the lowliest of the low, the 12th place finishing team formerly known as Andy's Red Hots. From this day until the mid-season point, Andy Morrish's team shall now be known as "So Gay I Make Synrod Uncomfortable," and his team shall be identified by the unmistakable pink and black helmet as shown. Congratulations, Toilet Bowl Champion Maras, on your excellent post-season run in the 2009 season. And to Andy: let's hope this teaches you a lesson.

Erick Puzan - Most Murderous AldenLeague Champion Congratulations! Most Murderous defeated the L.A. Ninjas by a score of 152.76 - 125.11 to win Fantasy Bowl X, and secure the 2009 AldenLeague Championship. Congratulations!
