Week 2 Recap / Week 3 Preview

Week 2 is in the books, and the AldenLeague seasons is now in full swing.  Some highlights from the week that was:

Highlight of Week 2, #1: Injuries, injuries, injuries.  The injury bug struck in Week 2, causing doom for several AldenLeague teams.  Aaron Hernandez, 5th round pick for The Risen, went down in the 1st quarter without registering a single fantasy point: he was projected for almost 13 by Yahoo, and The Risen ended up losing by 16.  Jamaal Charles, 3rd round pick by The Skyns, disappeared early from Kansas City's game with a bruise after scoring only 3 of his projected 16 points.  The Skyns lost by 18.  Fireseed's 4th round pick, Ahmad Bradshaw, left his game early with a neck injury after scoring only 2 points out of his projected 20.  Fireseed lost by a lot more than that, but still.  The team they lost to, CheektoWojo, faced an injury of their own: 3rd round pick Steve Jackson left hurt, scoring only 8 points on the week.

Highlight of Week 2, #2: The L.A. Ninjas' QB collapse leads to a tight loss to Syn City.  In Week 1, the Ninjas' QB combo of Jay Cutler and Peyton Manning put up 32 points apiece and Manning especially seemed to put a stamp on the notion that he is, in fact, back and in top form.  Well, that was certainly short lived.  Cutler crapped his pants in the Thursday night game and managed to put up a negative-1.24 score.  Going into the Monday night game, however, the Ninjas were within 18 points of Syn City, with Peyton left to play against Atlanta.  I was so sure that it would happen that I posted on the AldenLeague Twitter/Facebook account that there was only 1 game still in question - Boys of Fall vs. C-Men.  Wrong again.  The new scoring system's extra negative points for QBs throwing INTs worked against Peyton as he threw 3 of them in the first quarter alone during a nationally publicized self-destruction.  He rallied the troops late and made a play at it, but fell short fantasy-wise and only managed 13.5, sealing the 4-point win for Syn City.

Looking Forward to Week #3: Boys of Fall vs. Syn City is one of the oldest rivalries in AldenLeague, and this marks their 21st match up against each other.  Syn City leads 11-9 all-time, but the Boys of Summer swept their two meetings last season.
