Week 5, 2011 - By the Numbers

So far the 2011 season has seen some incredible things already, and Week 5's matchup between the 4-0 Boys of Fall and the 4-0 Skyns will only add to it.

Here's some interesting facts about the season so far:

-In Week 4, Syn City had to be feeling pretty good about scoring 169. The Risen had to be feeling even better after putting up 207. But both of them pale in comparison to the 248.24 that Justin's Boys of Fall scored. In fact, every other team in every other week of AldenLeague history pales in comparison to that score, as it becomes the new best single week in the 11-year history of the league. Justin got double-digit scores from 8 of his 10 starters, including a 50-point game from Cam Newton and 69 (really!!) from Aaron Rodgers. Justin's 248.24 will replace Todd's 243.64 from Week 5 of the 2004 season in the record book (a week which was made by a big part through the QB combo of Daunte Culpepper and Marc Bulger). Congrats, Justin!

-Meanwhile, another Hartman also put Todd on the negative side of the record book. In Week 2, Fireseed scored 195.75...but lost. Mike Hartman's L.A. Ninjas scored 196.26, making Todd the highest-scoring loser in AldenLeague history (an interesting fractal of Fireseed's overall history, in fact).

-Congratulations also to Steve Evans. His Week 4 victory over Stigs was his first AldenLeague victory since 2004. Welcome back! Unfortunately, his Week 2 loss to Puzan makes him 0-3 lifetime against Most Murderous.

-The Hartman brothers own the top 3 point scorers so far this season. The L.A. Ninjas took #1 scorer Tom Brady 4th overall in the first round, and the Boys of Fall took #2 Aaron Rodgers 2nd in the first round and #3 Cam Newton as a free agent.

-Three RBs were drafted in the first round of this year's Draft, and two more were taken within the first four picks of Round 2. Among those top 5 RBs, not a single one is currently within the top 30 scorers of the season. The highest-scoring of the group is Adrian Peterson (Stigs: 38th highest scorer), and the next is Frank Gore (Most Murderous: 69th). The five teams that selected those top five running backs through 4 weeks have a combined 8-12 record.

-Here's a current list of the top 10 RBs in order of points scored, and when they were drafted:
1. McFadden (Syn City - Rd 2, Pk 8)
2. Forte (The Skyns - Rd 4, Pk 10)
3. Rice (Andy's Red Hots - Rd 2, Pk 5)
4. McCoy (LA Ninjas - Rd 2, Pk 9)
5. F. Jackson (C-Men - Rd 6, Pk 3)
6. Mathews (Boys of Fall - Rd 4, Pk 11)
7. Sproles (Stigs - FA)
8. Peterson (Stigs - Rd 1, Pk 1)
9. Wells (LA Ninjas - Rd 9, Pk 4)
10. Turner (CheektoWojo, Rd 2, Pk 7)

-200-point weeks are a big feat in AldenLeague. But so far, Justin's Boys of Fall are AVERAGING 206.26 per week. Expand that over a 13-week regular season, and that would have him at 2,681.25 points for the season, which would eclipse Adam's 2005 record (2,179.54) for most points in a season by a whopping 501.71 point margin. To put that into perspective, that's like Justin getting an additional 2 games, and matching his own AldenLeague single-week record in both of them. However, to put a little reason into it: Justin's point output so far has come before bye weeks kick in (which of course brings down the point total of all teams compared to non-bye week weeks), and that's assuming he escapes injury-free. So, reasonable? Probably not. But something interesting to think about.

That's all for this week, gentlemen. Let the Week 5 games begin!
