FANTASY BOWL IX

It doesn't matter anymore. Playoff seedings - they don't matter. Records, total points - they don't matter. Previous matchups. League history. Sexual preference. Well, ok, maybe that matters a little. But, ladies and gentlemen, allow me to announce that FANTASY BOWL IX WILL BE HELD BETWEEN DEFENDING CHAMPION CHEEKTOWOJO AND ALDENLEAGUE ROOKIE LOS PETATES MEXICANOS! Winner takes all - the prize money, the glory, and their name etched on the AldenLeague Trophy for all time!

How They Got Here: After a dominating regular season in which they backed up their 2007 league title, CheektoWojo took a first round bye before thumping the L.A. Ninjas - the second highest scoring team in the league - by 30 points. Los Petates Mexicanos took the hard road - as the last team to qualify for the post season, they defeated Crittenden Division Champions Fireseed in the first round, Westwood Division Champions Boys of Summer in the second round, and now face the Sandridge Division Champions in the Fantasy Bowl.

Previous Meeting: CheektoWojo swept the season series 2-0 against Los Petates Mexicanos, with a 0.15-point win on Opening Day, followed by a 70-point whomping in Week 13.

Thursday Update: Both teams had Thursday participants - Peyton Manning had a huge day for Los Petates Mexicanos and put up nearly 47 points against the Jags. For CheektoWojo, Jacksonville RB Maurice Jones-Drew countered with a performance of 23. 14. In total, Los Petates Mexicanos have opened a 25.33-point lead following the performace of their best player.

Week 16 Injury and Starter Update: With the NFL regular season winding down, some teams have already announced alterations to their starting lineups, and some may bench starters early. Arizona WR Anquan Bolding, who is nursing a mild injury, will be inactive for his game this week - which has negative effects on CheektoWojo QB Kurt Warner, but could boost the production of CheektoWojo WR Steve Breaston. New Orleans RB Reggie Bush has officially been sidelined for the rest of the season, upping the value of CheektoWojo RB Pierre Thomas. Marion Barber appears to be able to suit up for the game, but his role will be defined during the game, as his injury makes him questionable. Los Petates Mexicanos may be facing some running back problems - San Francisco RB Frank Gore will officially be a game-time decision due to an ankle injury that has limited him in practice this week. If he can't go, the first replacement would be Arizona RB Tim Hightower, who is reportedly on the verge of losing his starting job to J.J. Arrington. After Hightower, the final option is Oakland back Justin Fargas, who has topped the 90-yard rushing mark only twice this season. Already ruled out this week for the Mexicanos was WR Marvin Harrison, who appears to be replaced in the lineup by NFL leading dropped-pass man Braylon Edwards. Also facing some injury questions is starting QB Jeff Garcia, who despite being expected to start this week, has been limited in practice all week by injury.

Yahoo! Prediction: Here's the most interesting stat of the matchup. Yahoo! prediction - using Manning and Jones-Drew's real Thursday scores instead of the projections, give Los Petates Mexicanos a victory with a score of 160.91 - 160.46. Let's hope the matchup lives up to the hype!
